There is the desire to return in 2025, Italian Open director Paolo Lorenzi claims Rafael Nadal
Italian Open Tournament Director Paolo Lorenzi is confident about Rafael Nadal returning to the ATP 1000 tournament in Rome next year. He has claimed that Nadal will be back at the Monte Carlo Masters and Rome Masters. However, he also talked about waiting for the Spaniard’s performance at the 2024 Roland Garros.
Notably, as Nadal had hinted that the 2024 season might be his last, there are speculations about his comeback to different tournaments in the next season. The 37-year-old bid farewell to his fans in Madrid which further fueled those speculations.
Nadal then played at the Rome Masters but could not produce the desired results. He was knocked out of the tournament after a defeat in the second round. However, unlike Madrid, the Spaniard did not say anything about this year being his last in Rome and now Lorenzi has made this big claim.
He never said that it would be his last presence here in Rome. I believe that in his head there is the desire to return in 2025 to Monte-Carlo and also to us. But it will depend on how the next tournaments go. He's a better Nadal than in Madrid, we'll see in Paris.Paolo Lorenzi said in an interview to Super Tennis.
What makes Paolo Lorenzi make such a big claim about Rafael Nadal?
Paolo Lorenzi has made such a big claim based on Rafael Nadal‘s statement about his comeback to Rome next season. With the speculations over his retirement rife, Nadal was asked this question following his exit from the Masters tournament and as stated by Lorenzi, the Spaniard did not confirm that this year would be his last in Rome.
Nadal said that he is not yet sure about his participation in the Italian Open next year and cannot make any claims about it being his last in Rome. The Spaniard said that while he was certain about Madrid, he had not yet thought over Rome.
I don't know if (this is) going to be the last time I am going to play here or not. Of course, (there) is much more chances that today is the last one. But of course, I am not a guy who makes a decision in hot moments, tough moments. Just try to let it be a little bit the time and then let's see...I never said that this was going to be my last tournament here. I said in Madrid because that was the case. Here, I am not 100% sure. It was probably 98%, but I will not say 100% when it is not.Rafael Nadal said about this season being his last in Rome.
Notably, the Spaniard is currently focused on the French Open. With only a few days left for the kick-off, Rafael Nadal is working hard to attain his best level. The 37-year-old is believed to be playing well in practice sessions and it is just a matter of time that Nadal pushes himself the same way on the court.
